Upgrade of Gas Pipes in Lostwithiel

Tuesday 17th February 2026

Gas Pipe relacement in Cott Road Lostwithiel

Gas Pipe Replacement at junction of Cott Road and Reeds Park (17th Feb 2026)

Wales & West Utilities has started work to upgrade gas pipes in the Cott Road / Lanwithan Road area of Lostwithiel.

The existing metal gas pipes, which can corrode over time,  are being replaced by modern plastic pipes which reduces the risk of leaks.
New pipes are suitable for carrying greener gases, such as hydrogen, which may be used more widely in the future as part of the UK’s move toward lower-carbon energy.  Gas network companies across the UK are required to replace certain older pipes as part of a long-term national safety programme.

Wales & West Utilities  has worked with Cornwall Council to plan the project. Traffic management will be in place during the work, including:

* A road closure on Cott Road, from the junction of Reeds Park to Grenville Road (16 February – 20 March).
* Phased road closures on Grenville Road (from No. 39 to No. 51) and on Lanwithan Road (from Grenville Road to Coffeelake Meadow) from 2 March – 10 April.

Diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Dates may change if needed. For more  details  see this map.

The project costing  £500,000  is planned  be completed in April.  Natalie Raphael, who is managing the project, said the work is essential to keep gas supplies safe and reliable for the community.
