Pleyber Christ Twinning Visit to Lostwithiel

Wednesday 8th May 2019

Lostwithiel twinned with Pleyber Christ
Over the weekend of 14th / 16th June 54 French visitors from Pleyber Christ will be hosted by 53 Lostwithiel twinners.  Most participants are adults, but there will be 21 children and so the visit programme has been designed to be family friendly.  The visit will be especially important this year as it will celebrate 40 years of Lostwithiel and Pleyber Christ twinning.

The cost of our visitors’expenses will be covered by funds raised by the twinning committee over the last couple of years.  Our French visitors are not expected to pay for anything other than private incidental expenses. This hospitality will be reciprocated when twinners visit Pleyber Christ in September 2019.

After their journey via Roscoff and Plymouth the visitors will be met by their hosts at the Community Centre on Friday evening. On Saturday morning guests will visit Wheal Martyn for a tour of the china clay museum.  In the afternoon everyone relocates to Golant to enjoy a boat ride up the River Fowey, subject to fair weather.  The more adventurous will kayak up the river to Lostwithiel and others will travel by motor boat.

Lostwithiel TwinningAfter recuperating with their hosts the evening’s celebrations commence in the Community Centre. A Cornish theamed dinner will be prepared by the twinning committee and after coffee and a piece of celebratory cake some of the tables will be cleared away to make room for the dancing.

Everyone with two left feet will be encouraged to participate. Dancing will be led by a ceilidh band and a professional caller.  Very few people, if any, will know what they are doing and so the evening is sure to be lots of fun!

Sunday will be a much more relaxed affair with hosts managing their own programme for the day.

Sadly, all twinning events must come to an end and everyone will meet up in the early evening to say their goodbyes.  Our French visitors will then depart to Plymouth for an overnight ferry crossing back to Roscoff.  Meanwhile, the Lostwithiel hosts will be putting up their feet as they recover from another hectic, but enjoyable twinning weekend!
