The Lostwithiel Town Team is thrilled to announce the Lostwithiel Town Trails, inviting residents and visitors to explore the historical, cultural, and natural wonders of Cornwall's ancient capital. Developed with significant funding from Cornwall Council's Town Delivery Fund and Community Chest, and with the support of Lostwithiel Town Council, these captivating trails now offer an engaging experience for all ages.

The Lostwithiel Town Trails can be followed from information boards and timelines that are being installed through the town. The trails take you through the history and nature of Lostwithiel and the Fowey valley and include comfortable, well-designed benches, with bird and bat nesting boxes that will enhance your enjoyment of the trail. Convenient cycle racks are being installed to improve accessibility and enjoyment along the route.

The main Heritage Highlights Trail can be followed from the maps on the information boards, but the trail has also been designed to be followed from your mobile phone that will provide you with further information as you follow the trail. Visitors can plan their adventure in advance using a laptop or tablet, or then follow the trails on their smartphone or from the information boards.

The web-based trail is now available ahead of the full launch that will happen later this summer. It can be accessed at www.lostwithieltowntrail.org.uk or through using the QR code:

The Heritage Highlights Trail guides explorers through 20 key points of interest, spanning the heart of the town centre and extending north to Restormel and south to Shirehall Moor, offering a comprehensive look at Lostwithiel's significant landmarks. In addition to this trail, you will also find three other trails:

  • Brass Plaque Trail: Delve into the town's architectural history by following 15 plaques, originally placed on historic buildings in 2008 by the Lostwithiel History Group and Town Forum.

  • Pub Trail: Uncover the fascinating stories and evolution of Lostwithiel’s traditional pubs and inns, exploring both establishments still serving and those that have taken on new roles as thriving shops.

  • Nature Trail for Young Explorers: Perfect for families, this trail (currently under development) will introduce the diverse flora and fauna of the Fowey Valley. Young adventurers will also engage with interactive rubbing posts and observe the newly installed bird and bat boxes.
