Lostwithiel Station Bridge finally Opens!
Sunday 22nd September 2024
A footbridge, albeit only temporary, has finally been erected at Lostwithiel Station. It is believed the previous footbridge was removed in the 1960's.
The new footbridge has been installed following an earlier proposal by Taziker in 2022 being deemed unsatisfactory. Quoting a Network Rail Spokesman as reported in the Cornish Guardian of 10th January 2024 “We were able to secure funding of £1.845m but, unfortunately, the project is currently paused because the proposed bridge design from our contractor has not passed safety regulations. We appreciate this delay is frustrating for the community and we are working with our contractor to find a solution.”
Work on the temporary footbridge was announced by Network Rail at the beginning of August 2024. According to a BBC report the cost of the temporary footbridge is £200,000.
There was a short news item about the bridge included in BBC Spotlight Late News on 25th August 2024. Lostwithiel item starts 2min 50 seconds into bulletin.
