Report of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) Open Garden event at Boconnoc Estate on 10^th May

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) welcomed more than 200 visitors to a special open garden event at the historic Boconnoc Estate near Lostwithiel on Sunday 10 May, raising an impressive £2,031.20 to support the charity’s vital care for children and families.

Guests enjoyed a relaxing afternoon exploring the estate’s beautifully landscaped gardens and the family-friendly fundraiser offered something for all ages. Sea shanties were performed by Lankelly Shout, adding a lively and traditional Cornish atmosphere to the day while a popular miniature train display provided nostalgia for younger visitors and families.

Sarah-Jane Hoskin, Area Fundraiser for CHSW, said: “Thank you to each and every person who came along to our open garden at Boconnoc. . We are very fortunate to have such incredible support from the local community who helped make the day such a success!”

The event was generously supported by local businesses, highlighting the strength of community spirit in the local area. Thanks go to Boddingtons for their strawberry conserve, Cornish Dairy for their clotted cream, Kelly’s of Cornwall for their ice cream, and Barnecutts for their cakes—all of which contributed to a delicious selection of refreshments.

CHSW also extend heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers who gave their time and energy to ensure the event ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all.

The Fortescue Family who own Boconnoc Estate said: “CHSW undertake incredibly important work, and we are proud to support the care and dedication of the staff, volunteers and all those involved in running the hospice.”

All funds raised from the event will go towards supporting CHSW’s work providing hospice care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, as well as support for their families.
