Lostwithiel Bowls Club Invites Newcomers for Centenary Season

Whether you have been inspired by the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games or simply want to enjoy a social afternoon in an idyllic setting, Lostwithiel Bowls Club would like to meet you.
To celebrate its landmark centenary year, the club is hosting a series of open events as part of the nationwide "Big Bowls Summer" campaign. Residents of all ages and abilities are encouraged to swap their regular shoes for trainers and try their hand at a sport that has been a staple of the community for 100 years.
Upcoming Open Sessions
The club will be open to the public on the following dates:
-
Saturday, May 2nd: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
-
Sunday, May 3rd: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
-
Open Evenings: Starting June 12th, the club will host sessions every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Chairman John Berryman said "We’re participating in Bowls’ Big Summer to give more people the opportunity to try our great sport, No experience is needed—just turn up and have a go. Whether you come on your own or as part of a larger group, you’re sure to receive a warm welcome."
The club provides all necessary equipment. The only requirement for participants is to wear flat, soft-soled shoes (trainers are ideal) to protect the beautifully maintained green. Club members will be on hand to provide friendly guidance for those picking up a bowl for the first time.
Located just 600 metres along Restormel Road on the right-hand side of the road, the club offers more than just sport. The facilities include:
-
Licensed Bar: Serving both alcoholic and soft drinks.
-
Refreshments: Tea and coffee available upon request.
-
Accessibility: The clubhouse is fully accessible with no steps and an accessible toilet. Handrails are provided for those stepping onto the green.
As the club marks its 100th year, these sessions are a vital part of keeping the organization vibrant and rooted in the Lostwithiel community. It is a perfect opportunity for families, friends, or work colleagues to get together and try something new.
