Further to our earlier news item about the Duchy Palace published on 29th March 2026, we now have an update from the owner, Cornwall Buildings Preservation Trust.
"Cornwall Buildings Preservation Trust (CBPT) is delighted to announce that Old Duchy Palace is due to re-open in May. The 700-year-old building on the corner of Fore Street and Quay Street has been closed whilst work was carried out designed to lower its carbon footprint, and improve its resilience to storms and the flooding that periodically affects Quay Street.
The Trust is looking forward to working with new tenants, Lily and Belle, an expansion of existing local businesses LilyBoo and Bellamama Deli. There will be a tearoom in the undercroft, with a craft shop and training space upstairs. The Trust hopes that this new enterprise will provide a boost to business activity in the town centre and enable more people to visit and appreciate one of Lostwithiel’s key historic buildings.
About Cornwall Buildings Preservation Trust (CBPT): CBPT is a small independent charity founded in 1973 and run by volunteers dedicated to rescuing historic buildings. The recent works at Old Duchy Palace were paid for by a grant from the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund and by National Lottery players through the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
More details about the Trust and its work can be found at: https://cornwallbpt.org.uk/ or by emailing: trustees@cornwallbpt.org.uk "
A history of the Duchy Palace is available on the CBPT website.
