On 14th November Historic England issued their Heritage at Risk Register 2024. The Register details the health of England’s historic buildings and places and helps to ensure they can be protected and continue to be enjoyed in the future.
Lostwithiel's Duchy Palace is included on the register because the building is "currently vacant with no obvious new user " The full entry on the register may be viewed via this link.
At present a programme of work is being undertaken by the Cornwall Buildings Preservation Trust (CBPT) to to reduce the carbon footprint of the Duchy Palace whilst improving its resilience to storms and the flooding that periodically affects Quay Street.
The climate change adaptations at Old Duchy Palace will include replacing the old gas fired boiler with a bespoke low carbon heating system, improved ventilation, and overhauling the flood defences in the undercroft – all helping to improve the useability of the building for business and visitors. The project is funded by grants totalling £183,000 from the Shared Prosperity Fund and National Lottery Heritage.Fund.

Work is already underway inside the building and scaffolding will be errected in early 2025 to enable the outside work to be tackled.
Old Duchy Palace will be available re-let to a new tenant in Spring 2025, preferably on a long-term basis, and the CBPT hopes that this will help to increase business activity in Lostwithiel town centre. CBPT are in the process of appointing a commercial estate agent to market the Duchy Palace on their behalf. Their website will be updated as soon as this appointment and viewing arrangements are confirmed.
