Our February Screen 2 film will be Timbuktu...

Not far from the ancient city of Timbuktu, now ruled by the religious fundamentalists, proud cattle herder Kidane  lives peacefully in the dunes with his family. In town, the people suffer, powerless, from the regime of terror imposed by the Jihadists determined to control their faith. Music, laughter, cigarettes, even soccer have been banned.  Although Kidane and his family are spared the chaos, their destiny changes abruptly in this stunningly rendered film from a master of world cinema.

'Sissako's film offers a fearlessly poetic response to the jihadist occupation; its tone is never preachy and it is beautiful to watch.' Michael Bonner, Uncut Magazine Uk

'Searing and brilliant, a passionate and visually beautiful film.' Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

Tickets cost £4 for adults and £2 for under 18s, and are available online now or in advance from Watts Trading or on the door if not already sold out.
