Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Monday 29th March, 7:00pm to 9:30pm

Location: Church Rooms

Certificate: 12a

Lost In Film's March film will be Vicky Cristina Barcelona, a return to form for Woody Allen with this beguiling tragicomedy which charms with beautiful views of Barcelona and a well-matched cast. It will be a Spanish themed evening with a choice of tapas, Spanish beer and wine available from the bar, which will be open at 7pm.

Two young Americans spend a summer in Spain and meet a flamboyant artist (Javier Bardem) and his beautiful but insane ex-wife (Penelope Cruz, in a role which earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar and Bafta). Vicky (Rebecca Hall) is straight-laced and about to be married whilst Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) is a sexually adventurous free spirit. When they all become amorously entangled, the results are both hilarious and harrowing.

The film won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and received 9 Oscar nominations. Allen was nominated for the Writers Guild of America: Best Original Screenplay, and Cruz received numerous Best Supporting Actress accolades.

Heat Magazine said it is "a massive return to form for Woody Allen. No lie." Film4 said "¡Arriba! Woody Allen's Spanish fiesta is his best film of the millennium and his funniest since 1994's Bullets Over Broadway". Rolling Stone said "Cruz is a stunner in every sense of the word - wild, erotic, quick-witted, touching and possessed of a beauty that can sneak up and break your heart".

Vicky Cristina Barcelona will be shown on Monday 29th March, at the Church Rooms, Church Lane, Lostwithiel. Tickets cost £4 and will be available in advance from Watts Trading or on the door if not already sold out.
