Lostwithiel Carnival

Sunday 12th July 2015
until Saturday 18th July 2015, 9:00am

Location: All over Lostwithiel

Sunday 12th July CHARITY FETE DAY: Join us for the start of Lostwithiel Carnival week on Sunday 12th July at the King George V Playing field at 1pm.

The Worshipful Mayor Councillor Pam Jarrett and the President of Lostwithiel Rotary Club will lead us in the Flora Dance. Following this the Charity Fete will begin, with attractions to please everyone, from bouncy castles to local charity stalls, competitions and children’s sports (with prizes!). Members of the Cornish Wrestling Association will be there, along with Spider Woman who will bring her unusual animals for you to meet.

AZOOK Cornwall will run a photographic local history exhibition for you to enjoy and we are hoping you will all enter the Fancy Hat competition which was so popular last year. Afternoon teas served by LCA volunteers will be available or you may wish to chose a burger and beer served by the YFC. Mount Charles Band will be in attendance throughout the afternoon.

You are sure to find something to entertain you, so do come along and join in the fun. The Mayor will be available throughout the afternoon if there any topics you would like to discuss with her.

Don’t forget to come along to the Flora Dance (Furry Dance) practice led by Councillor Gill Parsons at the Community Centre on Thursday 9th July from 6.30 to 7.30pm. All are welcome – come and learn this simple traditional Cornish dance and help keep it alive – all ages take part.

Monday 13th July – CRICKET: In the last couple of years we have finished in the dark, so this year we hope to start a couple of the matches at 5.30pm. If you are entering and are happy to start at 5.30pm, please let us know.

Tuesday 14th July – ROUNDERS: No changes to announce this year.

Wednesday 15th July - PRAM RACE: Calling all pram race enthusiasts; we have shortened and simplified this year's route to make it safer and more fun. The Junior races have always been exceptionally well supported and we hope that you will all be able to join us again, but we could do with a few more Senior teams this year. So, if you have a bunch of mates at the pub, or you work with a group of young at heart go-getters, or your neighbours are reasonably fit, why not build yourselves a pram and enter a team? The pram race is always a great spectacle, and we need people like you to have a go! It’s all about having fun, so do encourage your friends to join in. With a shorter route, you don't need to be terribly fit and there is no real time limit for the race. All you need is a sense of humour, 4 wheels, a half decent ‘pram’ and a little bit of puff. Entry forms will be available from Penhaligon's and Fran's Pantry from 17th June. Join us if you can!

BAND & CHOIR CONCERT: This year’s band and choir concert is being held in St.Bartholomew’s Church on Wednesday the 15th July at 8pm, in the middle of our Carnival week. It is one of the best supported events with a packed church guaranteed, and tickets are free, so come early! This year we are delighted, once again, by popular demand to have St.Pinnock Band, one of Cornwall’s finest and
(a first) our guest choir this year is the internationally renowned Loveney Male Voice Choir. We are also delighted to have the talented services of John Ead of Loveney Choir as our compere for the evening. Our sponsors once again are Kathy and Mick Townsend of The Kings Arms and we are most grateful for their support to make the evening possible.

Thursday 16th July – STREET PARTY: All the attractions you have come to expect – music, BBQ, entertainment, on the Parade and beside the River. The Raft Race from Coulson Park to the Bridge will be at 6pm, followed by the Duck Race from the Bridge at 7pm. Don’t forget to buy your Duck for a chance to win!

Friday 17th July – FOOTBALL: No changes to announce this year.

Saturday 18th July – CARNIVAL PARADE: Starting from King George V Playing Field where judging will take place, time tbc. If you are interested in taking part in the Carnival Parade, please let us know, particularly if you wish to enter a float. Time to start thinking about your theme, stirring up friends and family and creating those costumes! Prizes, BBQ, live music and fireworks when the parade reaches the Earl of Chatham.
